As the World Urns, by Jason Phelps

At a garage sale I buy an antique urn, which I think will look nice decorating my bookcase. But when I get home, I realize there are someone’s ashes in it. “Aahh! I purchased the wrong urn!” So I go back to the garage sale and take back the urn I bought. The person allows me to take it back and exchange it for another urn. I come back home and I find out that it is the perfect urn for the bookcase. I check to make sure that no one’s ashes are in it. I put the urn on the bookcase and it looks beautiful. My wife sees it and smiles. I am glad I made the exchange.

  1. I wonder what inspired this story, Jason. -- I wouldn't want a stranger's ashes in my home, either.
