Deafening Silence, by Ahron Gunn

Freedom is what they seek,
Equality is what they crave.

For one day they’ll be seen
As real people and not as slaves.

A reckoning soon arrived,
A brilliant man stood strong.

Equal rights he spoke of,
Using brains instead of brawn.

The winds changed fast,
MLK said, “I have a dream.

“Judging by color is wrong,
Let’s stop this racist regime.”

The world stopped and watched,
Which led to a break in the violence.

For on this historic day,
Came a deafening silence.

  1. We're still feeling the impact of his words, Ahron. MLK made it harder to ignore the reality of racism, which, unfortunately, continues to this day.
