Open-hearted Love, by Nancy Boyd

Singing off key and much, much too loud
Finding strange shapes in a big fluffy cloud
Staying up late, laughing along
Or crying together to your favorite song
Goofily dancing, not a care in the world
Pictures together as memories unfurled
Best friend, daughter, classmate, mother,
Cousin, brother, sister and other.
The love we cherish isn’t only romance,
And the ones in your life weren’t put there by chance.
Let’s realize that love is the people we know
Ones who encourage and help us to grow
We share love with so many, but we seem to forget
Remember you’re loved; there still is time yet!

  1. This is such a great point, Nancy: Most of the love in our lives isn't romantic, but it's powerful and sustaining and sometimes life-changing. We shouldn't give it short shrift. -- In Hamlet, Shakespeare wrote, "Those friends thou hast, and their adoption tried, Grapple them unto thy soul with hoops of steel."
